Straighten hair – Keratin Treatment, Brazilian Blowout, and smoothing products

Keratin Smooth Treatment“OMG…you’re so lucky…I just love your curly hair.” I have to admit, I’ve heard that once or twice in my life, but I’m sure all my curly haired ladies can relate…sometimes we just wish we can wake up with sleek and straight hair. While it’s true that we all want what we can’t have…straight haired girls probably think their hair is too boring and curly haired girls think it’s too hard to manage and want it straight. But falling into the latter category, I really do want my hair straight. I’m tired of the frizz, puff, tangles, fear of humidity, and not to mention feeling like I’ve gained a few extra pounds when my face is framed by extra inches of uncontrollable, curls.

But what’s the best way to straighten curly hair? Even though I’ve been there and done that, I bet having a girlfriend iron my hair straight with a clothing iron was probably not the healthiest way to go. Luckily, there are now more options for us curly haired gals. From Keratin Treatments to Brazilian Blowouts and a variety of smoothing products..we can remove frizz, add shine, seal in color and decrease blow dry times without damaging the hair follicles.

What’s the difference between a Keratin Treatment, Brazilian Blowout, and smoothing products?

Keratin Treatment

What is a Keratin Treatment?

Keratin is a protein that already naturally exist in your hair to give it strength and keep it smooth.

What does the Keratin Treatment process entail?

With such treatments, the hair is first shampooed and then completely dried. Afterwards, the product is applied and covered with a cap for about 20 to 30 minutes. Next the hair is blow dried and flat ironed straight. However, the process doesn’t end there. After these two to three hours, clients are required to leave the salon with the product in their hair and must wait three full days before washing it out. During this down time, clients shouldn’t do anything that will dampen or crease the hair, such as wearing barrettes or placing hair behind ears.

What are the typical Keratin Treatment results?

With a Keratin Treatment, clients will achieve manageable, soft, smooth, shiny, and straight hair. With the Keratin deeply infused into the hair cuticles, 95% of frizz and curls will be eliminated. results will typically last 3 to 5 months…but the more you wash the quicker it’ll return to normal.

Brazilian Blowout

What is a Brazilian Blowout?

A Brazilian Blowout is a hair smoothing treatment using proteins from a blend of amino acids to straighten hair.

What does a Brazilian Blowout process entail?

The hair is first shampooed completely and then dried until only a small amount of moisture remains. After which, the product is applied and then the hair is blow dried and flat ironed. Once the hair is completely dry, we shampoo the hair once again and rinse the product out. Next the hair is conditioned, rinsed, and dried one last time. Unlike the Keratin Treatment, a three day downtime is not required. The process will last about 90 minutes.

What are the typical Brazilian Blowout results?

A Brazilian Blowout not only defrizzes and straightens hair, but it also strengthens and conditions hair strands to create stronger and more resilient hair. Results typically last shorter than a Keratin Treatment (fewer than 12 weeks) and will straighten hair less as well.

Smoothing Products

Mission Viejo Beauty carries a range of products that when applied to hair and blow dried/flat ironed, hair will temporarily straighten. Products provide incredible results for those wishing to straighten their hair. Results usually don’t last as long as the Keratin Treatment or Brazilian Blowout and will require more maintenance.

Conclusion

Such treatments not only straighten curly hair, but they also repair, strengthen, and condition. One point to note…there’s a common concern that the straightening formulas contain carcinogens such as formaldehyde and or methylene glycol…with more so in the Brazilian Blowout. However, the danger doesn’t arise until the compound is combined with high temperatures…converting the liquid formaldehyde to gas vapors. Yet, with improved non-formaldehyde mixtures and application techniques, concerns and dangers have dropped down tremendously.
